a bit of why

I am rarely wrong, but when it does occur, I'll hold my hands up and take it on these broad shoulders!

No seriously, I am rarely wrong... but yes, this queen of Zen title is totally tongue in cheek, despite my intentions I'm not as zen as I'd like, actually I'm not sure anyone who knows me would ever put the Z word in my top 5 attributes... it was a joke I used to describe myself with over a decade ago and it is as untrue now as it was then.

This bit here though is all true (I started this as a a 39 year old Devonian, mother of 2 boys, guardian of one awesome dog, wife, Physics teacher, fan of nerdery, geometric lover, fermenter, adventurer, adrenaline sports enthusiast, dark chocolateer, ex Royal Engineer, recently turned vegetarian, blah blah blah, guess the rest.

(Wo)mantras, and quotes

These have been borrowed, remembered badly or morphed a little:

  • If you think you can, or think you can't, you are absolutely right (from Mum)

  • Short term pain, long term gain (not real fundamental pain as thats' proven to be detrimental, this is about doing the right thing now)

  • Time spent on resources is seldom wasted (for teaching, adapted from a Military quote about reconnaissance, although I still stand by that)

  • So in the Libyan fable it is told That once an eagle, stricken with a dart, Said, when he saw the fashion of the shaft, With our own feathers, not by others' hands, Are we now smitten.”―Aeschylus, but from Dad

  • “Only those are fit to live who do not fear to die; and none are fit to die who have shrunk from the joy of life. Both life and death are parts of the same Great Adventure.” -Roosevelt, but also from Dad

  • Its not how often we fall down but how often we get back up,

  • My best is always good enough (via Holly, thanks chick)

  • In hot water be the egg not the potato! (from Parys Edwards via Sarah Williams of the Tough Girl Podcast)

  • Sometime you need to stay in your own lane (from Denaye Barahone of Simple Families with regard to trying to change others behaviours, people rarely change positively when lectured or shamed)

  • If not me then who, if not now, then when...

And when I've been doing a food challenge...

  • Delay not deny

  • If you feel hungry maybe you're thirsty
